on May 4, is Remembrance Day and always on this day I would like to bring a brother of my grandmother to remember. His name is Antoon and he fell in ww1 in Melick Herkenbosch. he probably guarded a post with his comrade at the border to prevent the enemy from entering the Netherlands in order to get to Belgium. The Netherlands was impartial, they had already declared that right at the start of this war. It was foggy on that day, August 21, 1915. The comrade thought he saw the enemy and fired, but unfortunately Antoon was killed. That's how I was always told the story . Antoon was only 20 years old, a good week before his 21st birthday.
